We have been repairing German cars and Teslas in Toronto for over 10 years. Below is a selection of engine, timing chain, module repair and rust-protection work – the kind of jobs that make up a typical week in our shop.
🔧 BMW N52 Timing & VANOS Work · March 2022
The BMW N52 inline-six uses Valvetronic variable valve lift and double VANOS. When timing-related fault codes, rattles or rough running show up, the valve cover comes off so the timing chain, guides and VANOS components can be inspected and serviced with the correct timing tools. 🔧 BMW N62 V8 Valve Stem Seal Job · January – March 2022
Worn valve stem seals on BMW’s N62 V8 commonly cause blue smoke on start-up and oil consumption. The repair means removing the valve covers and Valvetronic components and replacing the seals with a dedicated valve stem seal tool – the same tool set we rent out through Loan-A-Tool. Learn more: N62/N73 valve stem tool set.

🛡️ Underbody Rust Proofing · November – December 2021
Before winter, vehicles go up on the lift so the underbody, seams and pickup beds can be treated with oil-based rust protection – important in Ontario, where road salt attacks brake lines, subframes and rocker panels. Learn more: rust proofing & undercoating.

⏱️ BMW N20 Engine-Out Work · October 2021
On the BMW N20 four-cylinder the timing chain sits at the back of the engine, against the transmission, so major timing work means removing the intake and separating the engine and transmission. These photos show the car part-way through that process. Learn more: BMW N20 timing chain replacement.

⏱️ Audi 2.0 TFSI Timing Chain · January 2021
Early Audi/VW 2.0 TFSI (EA888) engines are known for timing chain tensioner wear, which can cause a rattle on cold start and timing-related fault codes. The front of the engine is opened up so the chain, guides and tensioner can be inspected and replaced. Learn more: Audi timing chain replacement.

💻 BMW FRM Footwell Module Board Repair · November 2020
A failed BMW footwell module (FRM) can leave lights, windows and mirrors dead. Instead of replacing the module, the circuit board is repaired at component level and the module is reprogrammed to the car. Learn more: BMW FRM repair.

🔧 BMW N20 Oil Pump Replacement · May 2019
The oil pump on the BMW N20 is driven from the crankshaft and works together with the timing components. This job involved installing a new oil pump with the oil pan removed. Learn more: N20/N26 oil pump tool.

🔧 BMW 5 Series (E60) Engine Replacement · April 2019
When an engine is beyond economical repair, replacing it can keep an otherwise good car on the road. This BMW E60 5 Series came in for a complete engine replacement. Learn more: engine rebuilding & replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these photos from your own shop?
Yes. Every photo on this page was taken in our shop during real repairs. Licence plates and faces are blurred for privacy.
Do you do engine and timing chain work on German cars?
Yes. Engine replacement, timing chain and VANOS work, valve stem seals and oil pump jobs on BMW, Audi, VW and Mercedes engines are regular work for us.
Can you repair a module instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Modules such as the BMW FRM can frequently be repaired at component level and reprogrammed to the car, which usually costs far less than a new module.
